Hello, Catalina here.

Welcome to my first ever blog! I am excited to start sharing the stories behind the pictures of my triathlon experiences.

A little background...

Throughout my life my family has encouraged a positive and healthy active lifestyle and clearly stand as the most influential factor in pursuing and appreciating sport.

I was a Provincial Synchronized Swimmer for an enjoyable 8 years learning fundamental skills essential for high level performance such as sportsmanship, team work, dedication, time management, and balance. In 2013, I transitioned my training to triathlons and continued ever since.

Derek coached me towards the summer of 2013 where I was able to go from doing my first try-a-tri, to competing in sprint distance races and qualified for a spot on the Canadian Triathlon Team headed to the 2014 ITU World Championships in Edmonton.

In 2014, I trained with Derek as well as with the THOR triathlon club to prepare physically and mentally for two major races. First, the World Championships in Edmonton where I had a memorable week making friends and racing in a very enthusiastic environment. It WAS epic! Foto4vThe second major race was qualifying for the Canadian Team 2015 ITU World Championships in Chicago, which I am proud to say I did!

This year I enjoyed learning and achieving personal best times with Derek, Mettle Triathlon Club, and NYAC swim team, racing in Chicago for the 2015 ITU World Championships with the Canadian Team, qualifying for the 2016 Canadian Team for the ITU World Championships in Mexico, and ranking first in my age group in the multisport triathlon series.

I recently started my undergraduate in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa and will be swimming with the GeeGee Swim team (Go GeeGees!) and train biking/running with the University of Ottawa triathlon club. I would like to focus my improvement this year on running. During the summer I will be back in Toronto for race season.

This coming year brings many events to look forward to including racing in Cozumel Mexico, hopefully race in elite age group, and even race a few Olympic distance triathlons!

Welcome to the beginning of a great story.
